On Thursday, September 26, 2024, Consulate-General of Japan collaborated with NED University, Karachi for Japan Foundation’s Film Festival screening of Brave Father Online: Our Story of Final Fantasy XIV.

The event started off with Prof. Dr. Sajida Zaki, Chairperson of Department of Humanities at NED delivering a welcome note.

Deputy Consul General NAKAGAWA Yasushi remarked that film is an effective tool to understand foreign cultures and feel close to them. He stated that in his journey of learning Urdu and understanding Pakistani cultures, watching Pakistani dramas was most helpful.

He also explained that unlike South Asian films, Japanese movies may be too quiet as they do not feature singing or dancing. However, silence can also be an art form in Japanese cinema. He hoped the audiences enjoy the ‘ma’ (the sense of pause) and use this as an opportunity to learn about Japanese culture and values.

Dean of Architecture and Sciences, Prof. Dr. Noman Ahmed highlighted the significance of the Film Festival and expressed the importance of cultural exchange to current student.
