The Cultural & Public Affairs Section promotes mutual understanding between Japan and Pakistan through cultural events, educational programs, exchanges, and public outreach, strengthening people-to-people ties and bilateral relations.

Cultural Events
Japan Fest is a cultural festival celebrating Japanese traditions and arts. In Karachi, the Consulate‑General of Japan, with local collaborators, showcases Japan’s heritage through dance, martial arts, music, ikebana, bonsai, origami, and more, fostering cultural exchange and friendship.Japan Foundation Film Festival (Japanese Film Festival / JFF) is an international film festival organized by the Japan Foundation (JF) to promote Japanese cinema and culture to audiences around the world. In Karachi, the Consulate organizes the film screenings at various educational institutions and public venues across Sindh.
Japan Foundation Traveling Exhibition is a cultural program by the Japan Foundation (JF) that brings Japanese art, culture, and ideas to audiences around the world through mobile exhibitions. The Consulate arranges such exhibitions to be held at cultural public venues such as museums or galleries.
Cultural Exchange
JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) is a Japanese government initiative that promotes people-to-people exchange between Japan and countries across the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to foster mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among young people through educational, cultural, and professional programs.READ JAPAN Project is an international donation initiative that promotes understanding of Japan around the world through books. The project donates carefully selected Japan‑related English‑language books on topics such as history, culture, politics, literature, economics, and society to universities, libraries and research institutions globally.

The Japan International MANGA Award is an official award established in 2007 by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, to recognize and promote manga created by artists outside Japan.
Japan Foundation Film Theater (JFF Theater) is an online streaming platform launched by the Japan Foundation that lets people around the world watch Japanese films and video content online for free with multilingual subtitles.

Education
The Government of Japan offers a variety of scholarships and educational programs to support learning and cultural exchange across the world.
The MEXT Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship offered by the Government of Japan (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology – MEXT) for international students who wish to pursue their higher education at a Japanese institute/university in the below disciplines:
Japanese Language Course classes are held three times a week at the Japan Information & Culture Center by the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association. These courses are divided into 6 months for each session.

Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC)
Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC) hosts a variety of Japan-related cultural activities, including exhibitions, traditional flower arrangement demonstrations, academic events, performing and martial arts demonstrations, lectures, and film screenings. Most events are open to the public and are announced on JICC’s website and social media pages.

JICC has a well-stocked library with more than six thousand English, Japanese, and some Urdu books on Japan and DVDs on Japanese culture. These books can be borrowed for a period of two weeks and DVDs for 3 days by becoming a member of the library. Membership to the library is free of charge.
