“Karate workshop organized by Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi”

Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi in cooperation with the Japan Karate Association (JKA), hosted a two-day “Karate Workshop 2020” on February 23 & 24, at the Japan Information and Culture Centre (JICC).

Karate is one of internationally recognized martial arts originating in Japan and has become popular in Pakistan too with an estimated 40000 Karate players in the country. Karate is also included in the Olympic event from the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

Mr. Katsutoshi SHIINA, a leading Karate player from Japan and JKA official instructor, flew in especially from Japan to conduct the workshop. Mr. SHIINA is 7th Dan [The levels are divided into “Kyu” and “Dan”, and the levels start from Kyu (10 to 1) to Dan (1 to 10)].

This workshop offered opportunities not only for the participants to enhance their martial arts skills but also for people of Pakistan to explore the fun and excitement of Karate. During the two-day workshop, around 50 Pakistani Karate players participated in the training sessions and tested for Kyu or Dan promotions.

At the closing ceremony, Deputy Consul-General of Japan in Karachi, Mr. Katsunori ASHIDA, paid his gratitude to Mr. Shiina and hoped that the young adults training in the workshop would reach to future Olympics games. He also shared valuable tips on making the right sounds during Karate moves. Mr. SHIINA expressed his gladness to witness the passion of young Karate players and stressed on the importance of constant practice and hard work.
