Signing Ceremony for "The project for improvement of a Special Education School for Deaf in Rashidabad"
The Government of Japan extended a grant of US$77,476 to Family Educational Services Foundation (FESF) for “The Project for Improvement of a Special Education School for Deaf in Rashidabad”, under the scheme of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The signing ceremony was held at the Consul-General’s Official Residence, with the presence of Mr. Kazuo Tsukada, Acting Consul-General of Japan in Karachi, Mr. Kenji Sotowa, Senior Executive Coordinator of Indus Motors, Mr Muhammad Arshad, Assistant Manager CSR of Indus Motors, Mr. Richard Geary, Executive Director FESF, and Mr. Daniel Lanthier, Director Administration FESF.
In order to achieve its objective to provide low cost quality education to the population with special needs of the area, the Grant will be utilized for the provision of two School Vans and Equipment to set up a Bakery so that the situation will be improved and deaf students can get access to basic education facilities and acquire livelihood skills.
Speaking at the occasion, the Acting Consul-General stated that strengthening the quality of basic education, and improving the education system is one of the priority areas of Japanese assistance for Pakistan. Mr. Richard Geary, Executive Director, FESF, in his remarks, appreciated the initiatives taken by the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi for the improvement of the social sector, and in the particular education of deaf children, in the remote areas of Sindh province.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi hopes that this project helps to provide adequate assistive services to the needy and that they can have better facilities in the future. The Consulate-General of Japan also wishes that this support from the people of Japan will further strengthen the friendly relationship between Japan and Pakistan.
Under the GGP scheme, Japan has funded upwards of 360 projects in Pakistan since 1989.
