Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi organized the Official Development Assistance (ODA) Press Tour on 7 September, 2022
 
On September 7, 2022, the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organized an ODA Press Tour. This tour creates an opportunity for Pakistani media personnel to physically visit the sites that Japan has contributed in for the betterment of the people of Pakistan.
Participated journalists, together with the members of the Consulate and JICA, undertook a one-day tour and visited two projects sites in Karachi.
The first site visited was Al-Khidmat Foundation where the Government of Japan handed over two medical equipment under “The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to Medical Facilities in Karachi” . The grant has enabled the procurement of Laparoscopic instruments, Ultrasound and an X-Ray machine to two medical facilities where the needs of the less fortunate patients are increasing and this site was one of them, thus providing them with an opportunity to receive medical care with the latest equipment.
At the Handover ceremony, the Consul-General of Japan, Mr. ODAGIRI Toshio extended his sympathy towards the flood affected people while adding that in addition to the government of Japan providing tents and tarps as emergency relief supplies through JICA, and as an additional measure of support, Japan has decided to implement an emergency grant aid of US$7 million to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected areas.
The Consul-General was pleased to have an opportunity to donate the medical equipment which are expected to help make high-quality medical services more accessible to all, including the people living in poverty, in Karachi.
Alongside, media personnel were taken to ODA project site of “Karachi Water Supply Improvement Project” at Hub Water Filtration Plant. Amongst the three project sites initiated for the improvement of water supply system, Hub Water Filtration plant covers one of it. With the implementation of this project, the amount of supplied water from 1,600,000 m3/day in 1994 increased drastically to 2,869,000 m3/day in 2006. Whereas, the amount of treated water increased from 955,000 m3/day to 2,000,000 m3/day. Loan agreement for this project was signed in November 1994 for an amount of 10,300 million yen and it was completed in June 2006. The plant can be seen as fully operational, providing water to the citizens in the area.
