Consul-General visits Indus University as a guest speaker
Consul-General of Japan, Mr. Toshikazu Isomura visited Indus University on 2 July, 2019, where he was invited to share his achievements and discuss about the bilateral trade between Japan and Pakistan.
Mr. Isomura started off by stating how he has been in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for almost 36 years and has worked for more than 20 years in Pakistan to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. He then further elaborated on the following 3 topics: (1) History of Japan-Pakistan relations, (2) Experience as a diplomat in relation to Pakistan, (3) Nature of work at the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi.
Mr. Isomura then mentioned his mission for coming to Pakistan which was learning Urdu within two years, acquiring knowledge about Pakistan and creating connections needed for work. Later in 1987, he took his initial position at the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan. During this time and under his supervision, 20 Pakistani diplomats had learned Japanese with the assistance of a scheme that provided Japanese language training to foreign diplomats. He further added that he has worked four times in Islamabad, twice in Karachi and two years in Kabul.
Mr. Isomura stated that currently, there are about 84 Japanese companies in Pakistan and with better security measures the number could go higher and the trading could be enhanced. The Consulate makes sure the Japanese in this country feels secure and collaborates with numerous cultural organizations that strive to bring the two countries together.
He then ended the note on having keen interest in expanding this Pakistan Japan friendship to a greater extent by encouraging the youth of Pakistan to play their part in it. He also recognized the effort made by the Indus University in terms of teaching Japanese language course in their institute and is looking forward to future cooperation.
Lastly, the event concluded with the Chancellor of Indus University, Mr. Khalid Amin presenting the souvenirs as a gesture of appreciation.
