I am pleased to announce my appointment as Consul-General of Japan in Karachi on May 11, 2022. The diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan began in 1952, and this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This my first time working in Pakistan, and I am very honored to serve as Consul-General of Japan during this milestone year.

Currently, most of the 79 Japanese companies operating in Pakistan are based in Karachi, the largest commercial city of Pakistan. We are committed to strengthening cooperation with related organizations and providing support to resolve various problems faced by Japanese businesses in order to facilitate their activities and promote investment and trade between the two countries.

At present, approximately 340 Japanese nationals residing in Sindh and Balochistan, which are under our jurisdiction, have submitted a residence report to the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi. We will continue to provide various administrative services along with the latest safety information to all the Japanese residents, including those who are staying here for short-term business purposes, so that they can spend their time here in a peaceful state of mind.

Since the spring of 2020, many areas of diplomatic activities had been forced to slow down due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Now that the outbreak is coming to an end, we are determined to accelerate our efforts to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, while staying cautious and preventing the spread of the virus. I would like to conclude my remarks by wishing for the further deepening of friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan at all levels.

I look forward to hearing your suggestions and comments.
