Message from Mr. Akira Ouchi, Consul General of Japan in Karachi
CG
    A Happy New Year!
At the outset, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack which caused numerous
deaths and injuries including many students on January 20 at Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkha. Japan
strongly condemns such act of terrorism and is determined to support efforts by the Government of Pakistan to fight against
terrorism in cooperation with the international community.

I would like to make a report on the activities carried out by the Consulate-General of Japan from the middle of December last

year till January this year as written below.
On December 19, the 104th Midshipmen Commissioning and 13th SSC Course Passing Out Parade was held at the Pakistan

Naval Academy. I also attended and watched the parade and observed the event like the previous years.

on January 12, with the attendance of the Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism as Chief Guest. This Japanese Calendar Exhibition has been held every
year since 2009 in order to introduce to the Pakistani people the Japanese traditional and modern culture as well as Japanese advanced printing technology.
About 170 people came to see the exhibition. This exhibition will also be held in Quetta in February.

On January 13, I attended the Handover Ceremony for “The Project for the Provision of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Facilities for 25 Primary Schools in
Hyderabad”.  Latrines and water pumps for 25 primary schools in Hyderabad were installed under the Grant Assistance for grassroots Human Security Project
(grant: about 51 thousand US dollars). This project will contribute to the improvement of sanitary conditions of the primary schools so that more students
will be able to attend schools. The GGP Scheme has been implemented to benefit the local people in responding to their basic human needs in a small
scale but in a prompt manner.

I made an official visit to Hyderabad and Jamshoro District from January 20 to 21.   On January 20, I delivered a keynote speech on Japan’s foreign policy
at the Seminar on Japan Asia Relations” held at University of Sindh. After my speech, Prof. Dr. Mangi, Prof. Dr. Kakepoto and Assistant Prof. Khoso
delivered their speeches related to “Japan Asia Relations”. Over 120 students and faculty members from various faculties attended the Seminar and keenly
listened to the speeches and a lively question and answer session ensued. On January 21, I delivered a speech at the Japanese Scholarship Seminar
organized by MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP), Sindh Chapter at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology in Jamshoro.
The President of MAAP Sindh Chapter and two other members of MMAP talked on their experience of study in Japan and the staff of our office explained
about the scholarship. Over 170 students and faculty members from various faculties attended the Seminar. The students got the useful information
