Time flies so rapidly. One year has already passed since I assumed my post as Consul General of Japan in Karachi.
During this one year, this May, Mr. Nobuo Kishi, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs visited Karachi after Islamabad
and paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Muhammad Zubair, Governor of Sindh, and also had a meeting with the presence
of the Governor Zubair to exchange views with Pakistani and Japanese business persons on Pakistani economic situation
and business trends.
On the other hand, in September, 2016, the Consulate invited a Japanese musician of Koto and Shamisen who shows
her performance based in the United States, and host the Japan Fest 2016 in cooperation with culture and social groups
related to Japan like Pakistan Japan Cultural Association (PJCA) and Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF).

As far as Japanese assistance to Pakistan is concerned, the Karachi Children Hospital that was established by the Japanese Official Development
Assistance (ODA) was handed over to Sindh government in April 2017, and the hand-over ceremony was held with participation of H.E. Mr. Takashi Kurai,
Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan. In addition, a handing over ceremony of the Girls Elementary Schools which were also built by ODA was held as well.
From aspect of investment, two Japanese companies, Ajinomoto and Morinaga, have decided to invest in Pakistan during this one year. Now, totally
83 Japanese companies are doing actively their business in Pakistan. We are expecting more number of Japanese companies to come to Pakistan.
Thanks to efforts of the Government of Pakistan to improve law and order situation in Pakistan, security situation in Karachi has also dynamically
improved. We welcome this positive change.
In such current better environment, we would like to promote furthermore our bilateral relations between Japan and Pakistan.
June 1, 2017
Toshikazu Isumora
