Message from Mr. Akira Ouchi, Consul General of Japan in Karachi

More than two years have passed since I came to Karachi on November 8, 2012.
First of all, I would like to congratulate Ms. Malala Yousafzai on winning the Nobel Peace Prize in October.
I would like to make a report on the activities done by the Consulate-General of Japan from October to late November
this year as written below.
On October 15, I visited the factory of UD Trucks (Ghandhara Nissan Ltd.). The company is the Japanese related
company established in 1981 and produced and sold Nissan trucks and cars since then. They continue to supply mainly
UD trucks to the Pakistani market.
On October 30, Student’s Painting Contest was held at the Consulate’s Information and Culture Center. Five paintings
each under the theme of “Japan and Pakistan’s friendship” were submitted from 5 high schools and four excellent

paintings won prizes.
From November 10 to 11, I made an official visit to Khairpur, Larkana and Sukkur. On November 10, I delivered a lecture at Shah
Abdul Latif University, Khairpur Campus on Japan’s foreign policy. On November 11, I met Sindh Senior Minister for Education and DIG of
Larkana and view son topics of mutual interests. I also visited Mohenjo-daro, a world heritage site and Kot Diji Fort.
On November 13, I visited the factory of Tri-Pack Films. The company was established in 1993 with the share of 25% from Mitsubishi Corporation.
The factory with some equipment of Mitsubishi Heavy Industry has a very modern facility and has been producing films in use for packaging and
labeling for various products. The share in Pakistani market is over 70%.
From November 17 to 18, I made an official visit to Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Jamshoro District. On November 17, I delivered a lecture on
“Bilateral Relations between Japan and Pakistan” at the Rotary Club of Mirpurkhas. I also delivered a lecture at the University of Sindh, Mirpurkhas
Campus on “Education System of Japan” on the same day. On November 18, I Delivered a lecture at Far East & Southeast Asia Area Study Center,
University of Sindh, on “Japan’s Foreign Policy”. The audience of each lecture eagerly listened to my lecture and many questions were asked and lively
discussions were held afterwards, which proved the strong interest towards Japan existing even in the local areas in Pakistan.
From November 22 to 25, Japanese Business Mission organized by JETRO visited Karachi and had business talks with Pakistani businessmen and
visited Japanese related factories. On November 24, I myself and the Country Director of JETRO co-hosted the reception for the members of the
Missionand some Pakistani businessmen.
