Japanese Emperor’s 80th Birthday Celebrated in Karachi

 On December 12, 2013, the Consul-General of Japan in Karachi, Mr. Akira Ouchi and Mrs. Junko Ouchi hosted a
 grand reception to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor Akihito, who will be 80 years old on the 23rd
 December, 2013. Senior Minister for Education, Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro was the chief guest at the reception and
 was also attended by parliamentarians, government officials, diplomats, businessmen and other prominent figures.

 Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Akira Ouchi explained about various economic and cultural activities that have taken place
 throughout the year in Karachi, and emphasized his heartfelt commitment in further promoting economic cooperation,
 and activating cultural and people-to-people exchange between Japan and Pakistan.

 On this occasion, some Japanese companies in Karachi have set up their booths and displayed their products such as motor
 bikes, batteries, generators and featured panels on Japanese automobiles at the hallway of the reception venue. Also, there
 were some cultural displays such as exquisite ikebana (Japanese art of flower arrangement) by four ikebana groups, traditional
 dolls and toys as well as Japanese robots. The guests showed their keen interests to these unique displays and appreciated them.

 The Chief Guest, Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Senior Minister for Education, congratulated His Majesty the Emperor Akihito on
 His birthday and expressed his sincere wish for His good health and prosperity. Minister Khuhro also reiterated about the cordial
 and friendly relations between Pakistan and Japan, and has extended his deep appreciation in regard to Japan’s ODA to Pakistan
 in various sectors.

 Also on this occasion, conferment ceremony of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon on Professor
 Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel was held, in recognition of his significant contributions to the friendship and mutual understanding
 between Pakistan and Japan. Professor Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel has made remarkable contributions in promoting education
 of Urdu Language and literature, and supporting research studies on history and culture of Pakistan in Japan. From 1993
 to 2000, he was a Visiting Professor at Daito Bunka University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and afterwards
 engaged as research fellow at Osaka University and Kyoto University in Japan. He had been a professor at University of
 Karachi until 2006 and was a dean of Faculty of Language and Literature at International Islamic University in 2010. Also,
 Professor Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel is an executive member of Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, Sindh, and has been actively
 promoting cultural and academic exchanges between Pakistan and Japan.
