Japan’s handing-over ceremony for ‘’The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment for Pediatric Intensive Care Unit to a Hospital in Karachi”.
The government of Japan extended a grant of US$86,460 (approximately Rs.9 million) to the Indus Hospital for “The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment
for Pediatric Intensive Care Unit’’ under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.
The handing over ceremony was held on February 21, 2017 at the Indus Hospital in Karachi, between Mr. Toshikazu Isomura, Consul General of Japan in Karachi
and Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, CEO of the Indus Hospital.
The grant covers the cost of medical equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, etc. The Indus Hospital has been providing
health care services free of cost to underprivileged people since 2007 and it has recently set up a new Pediatric Unit to provide better child health services and these
equipment has been installed in this unit.
At the handing over ceremony, Mr. Isomura expressed his sincere hope that the equipment provided under the grant would greatly improve child health care services
in Sindh. Mr. Isomura also wished that this support from the people of Japan would further strengthen friendly relationship between Japan and Pakistan.
Under the GGP scheme, Japan has funded about 350 projects in Pakistan since 1989, and this is the 16th GGP project to be implemented by the Consulate-General
of Japan in Karachi since 2009.
